Derbyshire Scout group receives a good deed from an E.ON employee

Sandiacre Explorer Scout Unit adolescents can carry on enjoying their great outdoors camping adventures thanks to a donation of £250 from E.ON, one of the UKs leading Business Energy companies.
36 year old Nigel Dumelow of Sandiacre, has been an EON employee for more than two decades, whose most recent appointment for the company was as a unit operator, based at the Power Station at Ratcliffe-on-Soar, a spectacle which is well-known to a lot of people in the Derbyshire region.

Regularly volunteering as a Scout Leader at the group, Nigel takes the youngsters on weekly camping trips. In addition to this, Mr Dumelow takes the kids canoeing, sailing and on walking trips.

Nigel states, "I've been involved with the Explorer's Unit for over 28 years, ever since I joined as a Cub when I was eight, and just never left because I enjoyed it so much".

"I've been a leader for over 16 years and I look after a group of 25 kids aged between 14 and 18. It's great as I not only teach them the skills to safely enjoy outdoor activities, but we also take them on trips regularly - we recently spent a week away in Ireland which was fantastic.

"The money from E.ON will really come in handy as it means we'll be able to replace some of our tents and camping equipment which have almost worn out from over-use!"

E.ON energy gives £19,000 cash injection to Jesmond swimming pool for solar development

Eon, one of the United Kingdoms largest Business Energy Suppliers, has presented a gift of £19,000 as part of its SOURCE commune scheme to help with the expense of establishing a thermal system powered by solar energy at Jesmond swimming pool.
All monies will be applied to assist with paying towards the cost of the solar panels for the roofing, which in turn will impart heat for the water in the swimming pool itself. Trustees of the swimming pool hope that this solar thermal installation will be the biggest of its kind in the North East of of the United Kingdom.

Community Relations Executive at E.ON, Sarah Green, states: "We're delighted to be able to contribute towards this exciting project for the North East as part of our new SOURCE scheme, which is designed to help community groups get sustainable energy projects off the ground.

"The pool's trustees are determined to lower its carbon footprint and we're confident that the addition of this solar thermal system will bring down its energy bills."

It is hoped that the new solar system will prevent the emitting of around 5,500kg of carbon dioxide every year, and so that visitors can keep an eye on its output, a unit will be located at the pools lobby area which will show how much emissions are being reduced.

Chief executive of the Jesmond Swimming Project, Glenn Armstrong stated: "We're delighted to have received this funding, without which we would have struggled to pay for such an important installation.

"By using solar power, we are demonstrating to the local and wider community the importance of controlling our carbon footprint, and at the same time reducing our annual power bills."

One of the UK's Business Gas Suppliers, Business Electricity Suppliers and leading green electricity generators, E.ON, initiated its SOURCE support early this year to aid in the expenses incurred for sustaining energy projects for buildings in communities.

The SOURCE website backs up the fund, it also grants access to information and guidance for groups in the community looking to generate their own energy and become more energy efficient or from sources which are more sustainable.

Community hall at East Leake recieves energy boost from E.ON

Energy company E.ON has given A £650 grant was given to St Mary's Hall in East Leake under its new SOURCE community scheme to increase its energy proficiency.
All money will be applied to install insulation between the ceiling joists in the Grade II listed building just as winter sets in.

Community Relations Executive with E.ON, business electricity providers said: Sarah Green, stated: "The community's already worked hard to reduce the amount of energy used by the hall and to reduce its carbon footprint. That means they've had to balance the requirements of maintaining a listed building in a conservation area with making it more sustainable.

"And we're confident that the addition of this insulation courtesy of our grant should make it more comfortable for users, as well as bringing down energy bills.

"This is exactly the sort of project our new SOURCE scheme is designed to help, by providing the information and funding community groups need to get their sustainable energy projects off the ground."

St Marys Hall dates back to the Victorian era, with an additional room added to it in the 1960s. There are several groups locally who regularly use the hall, it is widely hoped that the new insulation will hearten more people to use the facility.

Manager of St. Mary's Hall, Patricia Brown, states: "We're grateful to E.ON for giving us the opportunity to make the hall more energy efficient. The insulation will help in retaining heat more effectively for our hall users."

People living in Sheffield were invited to see proposals for the new E.ON power station at Blackburn Meadows

Local residents are being given the chance to find out more about E.ON UK's proposals for a new £60m biomass power station at a series of public exhibitions starting this week.
E.ON, one of the UK's leading green generators, submitted a scoping statement to Sheffield City Council and other statutory consultees earlier this year, outlining regeneration plans for the former Blackburn Meadows power station site.

Rated at 25MW, the new renewable energy plant would produce enough power for around 40,000 homes by burning ‘biomass' fuel such as wood and specially grown energy crops.

And the company is now inviting local people to join them at one of three exhibitions being held across the city.

Friday 19th October, 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 7.30pm - Tinsley Green Children's Centre, 34a Norborough Road, Tinsley (Urdu and Slovakian interpreters will be available);

Monday 22nd October, 1pm to 6pm - E.ON marquee on the Moor outside Debenhams;

Tuesday 23rd October, 10am to 7pm - Meadowhall shopping centre in the upper atrium outside Marks and Spencer.

Project Manager Dr Nilton Chan said: "We're really keen to meet and talk to the local community and to get their views.

"We want people to come along and find out more about the regeneration of Blackburn Meadows and would welcome the chance to meet anyone who has any questions or would like further details of our plans."

It is hoped that a full planning application will be submitted to the council later this year.

If the green light is given to the project, work will commence in early 2009 with the first energy getting created in 2011.

E.ON employees go for the ride of their lives in support of charity

A group of four super-fit and daring workers from E.ON enjoyed a well deserved rest in the French capital after completing a gruelling 280 mile bike ride from London to Paris in support of the British Heart Foundation.
Andy Swaine, 27, Howard Mitchell, 26, Oliver Bliss, 25, and Gethin Musk, 26, all from Nottingham, completed the London to Brighton ride in 2005 for the British Heart Foundation and were keen to support the charity again this year. They were joined by their support driver Sarah Curtis, 23.

Andy, a Project Engineer at E.ON's Holford Gas Storage Project, said: "We were keen to do something different for the charity this year and riding from London to Paris sounded like a fair challenge to us all.

"The ride was over three days and we had overnight stops in Boulogne and Amiens.

"We all rode the full distance between Greenwich Park and the Palace of Versailles, which was about 280 miles, and I don't think any amount of training could have fully prepared us for it!

"We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and the best part of the challenge is that we were able to raise over £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation, and E.ON has agreed to match this amount as part of the company's matched funding programme.

"We'd really like to thank everyone who supported us, especially our support driver Sarah, who was with us through all of the aches and pains!"

Paul Squires, New Media Manager at E.ON UK, before the actual event said: "This is the second year of our partnership with the Tour and we really wanted to ramp up the work we were doing.

"It's important to us that we offer fans, customers and employees something that adds real value to the race, whether that's offering an interview with some of the stars in the podcast or the chance to take part in a competition to win some top prizes.

"The site will go live on Friday and we're confident that it'll prove a real hit with the fans of what is Britain's top pro cycling event, as well as giving people the opportunity to find out a bit more about E.ON."

During the stages themselves, E.ON staff will be handing out the branded hats that proved such a hit last year, with a new twist being that they are double-sided - with E.ON red on one side and the King of the Mountains spots on the other.

There was also the chance for spectators to pick up some branded water bottles and clappers at selected stages.

The race took place between September 9 and 15, with the seven stages having took the cyclists from London to Glasgow. Teams involved this year included CSC, Barloworld, T-Mobile and Tinkoff Credit Systems.

Ipswich’s Titans continue to grow thanks to E.ON UK donation

Members of the Ipswich-based AFC Titans football club are looking forward to a successful season thanks to a £500 donation from energy company E.ON UK.
Peter Bonsall, 26, of Ipswich, who has worked for E.ON for two years, started the club in August 2006 with his brother and four fellow E.ON colleagues.

"We decided to start the club because we didn't think we were good enough to get into any of the other local teams," said Peter.

"But since then the club has really grown and now we've got a squad of 24.

"As you can imagine, it's expensive to run a football team of any size, and the money we received from E.ON will come in really handy.

"It'll help us to buy all of the kit we need to get through another cold winter on the pitch, and we'll hopefully finish further up the table this season!"

E.ON UK announces plans to build one of UK’s largest wind farms off the Yorkshire coast

E.ON UK, one of the country's leading green generators, has announced plans to build a multi-million pound offshore wind farm over 8km off the coast of East Yorkshire, just north of the Humber estuary.
The proposed Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm would have up to 83 turbines and produce up to 300MW of clean, green energy, enough to power up to 195,000 homes - more than one and a half times the number of homes in Hull.

Dr Paul Golby, Chief Executive of E.ON UK, said: "When built, this wind farm will be one of the biggest in the UK and will play a vital role in the fight against climate change.

"It will displace the emission of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide every year and will make a significant contribution to helping us meet the Government's tough renewable energy targets.

"But this scheme represents just one of the billions of pounds worth of investments we're making in the UK, all of which are designed to help keep the lights on while also reducing carbon emissions.

"To do this, as well as harnessing wind power, we're changing the way that we look at energy in the UK by developing other lower-carbon technologies which will play a key role in securing our energy for tomorrow.

"We're nearing the completion of the UK's largest dedicated biomass plant at Steven's Croft in Scotland, looking at developing cleaner coal technology and developing marine power schemes.

"By embracing all options, we can make a real difference."

E.ON is committed to reducing its carbon intensity of its emissions by 10% by 2012. This builds on the existing achievement of reducing carbon intensity by 20% since 1990.

To achieve its goal, E.ON is changing energy for the better and investing for a low-carbon future. Its plans include:

£700m for gas-fired power stations at the Isle of Grain in Kent (which is currently being built) and at Drakelow in Derbyshire;

£1bn for a cleaner coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent;

£325m on building the Robin Rigg offshore wind farm in the Solway Firth;

Gas storage facility at Holford in Cheshire and at Aldbrough in the East Riding of Yorkshire;

£90m on building the UK's largest dedicated biomass power station at Steven's Croft in Lockerbie.

Consultation with the local stakeholders has already begun and the company will also be holding a series of public exhibitions to hear local views.

Combined, E.ON's renewable portfolio generates enough green energy to supply the homes in a city the size of Manchester.
Powergen are one of the countrys' biggest energy suppliers.

E.ON employees take their place in history at Runnymede

Hi people, it seems as though it's been a long time since I shared a bit of news with you guys. I apologise for this!
Here's a little bit of news from one of my clients which I found interesting.

A group of 10 volunteers from energy company E.ON's Finance management team got hands-on and earned their place history when they put up fences in the Runnymede National Trust parklands site, near Windsor.
The team eagerly faced the task of building fencing along designated footpaths to deter people from cutting through woodland areas, and also from disturbing wildlife.

This involved not only putting up the fencing, but also digging the holes for the fence posts.

Michelle Rafferty, one of the willing volunteers, said: "It was quite hard work and my arms, along with everyone else's, were aching by the end of the day.

"We all really enjoyed ourselves and it was great to know we'd made a difference to help protect this beautiful area."

Vicki Brook, from the National Trust, said: "We're delighted with the work the E.ON volunteers did, it's really made a difference.

"Just having them here for one day has helped us to get more than eight days' worth of work done, which is just fantastic as it frees up our wardens to get on with other jobs."

E.ON UK finds and supports volunteering opportunities which provide a rewarding challenge for employees as part of its wider community relations programme. In 2006, staff spent over 32,000 hours volunteering on projects in their local communities.

E.ON UK brings on board next generation of apprentices to boldly go into the future of energy

A great bit of news for you all from the biggest energy supplier in the United Kingdon.
With E.ON, one of the UK's leading green generators, spending billions of pounds on the next generation of power stations, it is also welcoming a team of new apprentices to help deliver that investment.

The company, which is the UK's largest integrated power and gas company, has hired 23 young apprentices to work across their portfolio of gas and coal-fired power stations, CHP plant and engineering services teams.

Martin Baker, Head of Asset Management, said: "We're changing energy - both how we produce it and how we use it - so we're investing heavily to help ensure security of energy supplies and to tackle the global threat of climate change head on.

"Our business needs young people to bring energy, enthusiasm and new ideas to the energy industry, which is why we've brought these new apprentices on board.

"The timing couldn't be more perfect for the next generation of engineers to come in and help us prepare for a future that will impact on us all for generations to come."

The apprentices will be based in the following key locations:

* Connah's Quay Power Station, Flintshire;
* Power Engineering Services, Hams Hall, Nottinghamshire;
* Ironbridge Power Station, Shropshire;
* Kemsley CHP, Kent;
* Kingsnorth Power Station, Kent;
* Ratcliffe Power Station, Nottinghamshire;
* Thornhill CHP, West Yorkshire.

Over 60 apprentices are at various stages of the four-year scheme, which brings on board school leavers from 16 years upwards to develop key skills and specialist engineering techniques.

"It's a real pleasure to watch these apprentices develop from school leavers to highly-skilled individuals - the scheme gives them a springboard from which to launch their careers and it's a true privilege to be able to offer opportunities like this to people," said Martin.
